Model Overview:

While Land Rovers are icons of taming the untamed wilderness, they sometimes suffer in more urban settings. Not so with the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. This small crossover SUV is maneuverable in tight confines and quite pleasant on the highway. Furthermore, the Evoque maintains Land Rover's reputation as a premium brand and can also tackle some surprisingly daunting terrain.

Atypically for a luxury SUV, the Land Rover Evoque is offered as either a four-door or two-door model. Sleek styling, decent fuel economy and an affordable base price are also part of the Evoque's appeal. That price, however, will climb steeply as options are added or trim levels are upgraded. Other drawbacks include mediocre cargo capacity and Land Rover's dubious reputation for reliability. But if you're in the market for a captivating luxury crossover with both on-road manners and off-road capabilities, the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque should work out well.

Current Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
The current Land Rover Range Rover Evoque represents the model's first generation, which debuted in 2012. Although Land Rover (http://www.edmunds.com/land-rover/) uses the Range Rover name here, the Evoque is completely unrelated to its larger SUV sibling.

The two- or four-door Evoque is offered solely in a Pure Plus trim. Buyers can, however, select Dynamic or Prestige "design themes" that differentiate themselves with unique materials, color choices and design flourishes. Standard feature highlights include 19-inch wheels, the Land Rover Terrain Response system, a rearview camera, parking sensors, a power liftgate, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, full power accessories, leather upholstery and a touchscreen interface.

Upgrading to the Pure Premium package adds adaptive xenon headlamps and LED accents, a blind-spot warning system, a 360-degree parking camera system, keyless ignition/entry, a navigation system and premium audio. To that, an adaptive suspension may also be added, along with contrasting roof colors. The Prestige (four-door only) ups the luxury design quotient with finer leather and additional front seat adjustments. Other options include a rear-seat entertainment system, 20-inch wheels and cold-weather features (heated front seats, steering wheel, windshield and washer jets).

Regardless of which Evoque version you choose, it will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 240 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic is the sole transmission offered. The Evoque's not terribly quick compared to rival luxury SUVs, but the savings in fuel economy should provide some comfort.

In terms of actual comfort, the front seats provide plenty of head- and legroom, along with a wealth of seat adjustments to fit most body types. The rear seats are on the cramped side, particularly for taller passengers. Accessing those seats is a challenge in the Evoque coupe. The four-door model is definitely recommended for those who regularly transport multiple passengers. Cargo space also falls short of other small SUVs.

These weaknesses will likely have family-minded folk looking elsewhere, but the Evoque's strengths should still hold appeal for singles and couples. Primarily, it looks great inside and out, with aggressive yet elegant lines and a cabin that exudes modern luxury. The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is also perfectly at home in congested cities, where maneuverability and agility are high on the needs list.

  • Unique SUV Makes a Good Pick 4 me - 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
    By -

I liked this SUV because it was different than the competition in style (e.g. A5, X3, etc.). Also, I need a vehicle that does operate off road in a serious manner, and all the reviews says this one can while the others cannot. I really like how this drives and handles. Was excellent in recent snow storm, and gets looks from other drivers because its pretty cool on the outside.

  • Love mine, with reservations - 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

I bought this, the first time, on a whim. Driving by the dealer, I saw one and bought it on the spot. Fully loaded Dynamic at almost $60k. The first one was immediately a lemon, so it was replaced. After six months, the latest one has been a joy to drive. Great performance, great style, very practical in most ways.

  • Love my Evoque - 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

I bought a 2014 Evoque Pure Plus. I traded in 2 cars. My 2012 Mini Countryman and my 2012 Corvette GS. My job situation has changed- IE I make less per the economy/awful president. Ok, This isnt a political discussion. The Vette outside of being fast was completely unimpressive. The Evoque is beautiful, drives really well, handles and accelerates very nicely. The ride is quiet unlike the Mini. The Mini was loud, transmitted every sound to the occupants. I liked it lot less after owning it a while. The Evoque is luxurious. A work of art. Hopefully it will be more reliable then my 98 and 02 LR Discoveries. The day I picked it up the door remote wouldnt work. A computer update fixed it.

  • Lemon? - 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

New 2014 Evoque in for its first service plus periodic loss of power, dome light comes on when encountering a bump in the road and the sunglasses holder is either stuck closed or pops open on its own. Dealer had to replace a bad fuel injector and order a new upper console. Result is that the parts take a while to deliver from England and I am without my brand new Evoque for 5 days.

  • Range Rover vs. Porsche Macan - 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
    By -

I test drove the Range Rover and the Porsche Macan. I couldnt justify paying 10K extra for the Porsche Macan. Sure the Porsches engine was strong and had better pick up and felt expensive but was it worth 10K more. I really like my red Eovque and it gets a lot of great looks and compliments. I would like the pick up to be a little faster in the Evouqe but given the recent news about VW, I would give up power for better emissions. The interior is very nice and feels classy. i acutally had to read the owners manual from almost front to back to understand all the features. The SUV looks comparably small compared to other SUVs and lack of trunk space is noticable (i had a Audi Q5 before). Overall I am very satisfy with this purchase. i probably paid too much for it but oh well.

  • Evoques all senses - 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

Absolutely fun to drive, definitely a lot of sport in this less utility vehicle. Styling turns heads. Prestige of a premium brand name. Well done interior. Land rover packaging really sucks. I liked the prestige interior, but magne ride is available only in dynamic. Liked the hood scoops but available only in coupe.... Otherwise its a fun a little ride.

  • Disappointed - 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

Hate complain but the JDPower survey they sent was nothing but marketing research for Land Rover and the dealership. No opportunity to discuss these deficiencies. Overhead sunglasses compartment broke within 2 months of purchase of this new car. Took it in for repair. It took 5 weeks to get the part and a week to get an appointment after they called to say it was in. When they replaced it, it broke again in one day. Trim on the exterior sides of the windshield came loose on my second long highway trip and I had to stop several times as the flapping became unbearable. Had to remove the trim. So far that repair has held up, Jerky starts in economode. Evoque has a tiny little area to organize phone, change, pen, glasses. Cheap plastic tire rims are easily damaged on curbs, tint in wire filled windshield darkens the true beauty of the horizon, turn signal keeps going for a short period after being turned off, gas tank is on the passenger side (duh), accessing the odometer is not intuitive. You have to push a button on the tip of the turn signal!, the tiny rear window is inadequate, I cannot see kids walking in front of my house as I back out of my garage.

  • Land Rover Evoque 6sp manual diesel - 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
    By -

Why LR does not offer the 190 hp diesel 6 spd manual Evoque in the US is beyond me. I had military sales order a German spec model and this Evoque was much better the the US spec quirky automatic. The car gets about 40 mpg on the autobahn and will run a steady 120 mph all day. Visibility not a problem and back up camera a must. LR needs to offer this model to the US. If VW can bring over diesels that LR needs to follow suit.

  • Range rover evoque 2014 premium - 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

THIS IS a SMALL SUV, if you want big cargo dont buy small suv, the exterior of the car is very good sexy looking, it is more manly than the other small suv ,it is the hottest small suv on the market, it look better with 4 doors than the coupe which looks funny, the interior is state of the art, very nice one of the best with no comparison to the most oudated interiors of the other competetives. the car is fun to drive, it change gears very quickly but sometimes when you dont want t , it could be on the 6th gear at speed of 40, so sometimes you may feel that, vibration side merrors are ugly but compensate for the limited rear view, gas milage as stated, GPS is state of the art. no issues
